On this very important weekend, a prayer by General Douglas MacArthur regarding his only son, Arthur. It was written while he was stationed in Australia, serving as the Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in the Southwest Pacific.
BUILD ME A SON
Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.
Build me a son whose wishes will not take the place of deeds; a son who will know Thee—and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge.
Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.
Build me a son whose heart will be clear, whose goal will be high; a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men; one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.
And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously. Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, and the weakness of true strength.

I am thankful that you keep posting and keeping us in mind. Loved the MacArthur piece.
No doubt you could be doing a lot of other things and be oblivious about people who remember you and pray for you and John.
Don’t think your career is over or even near it. You have a huge ability to continue to influence because you have established, by God’s grace, great credibility.
And people want and need to hear what you have to say. Keep going, girl! Write some books, appear on podcasts and talk shows–God made you an icon. That’s so you can influence for many years to come.

When I began traveling again following the sickness and loss of our mom, I asked the Lord to open doors and close them. I did not want to be anywhere that would not have purpose (I’m too old to travel randomly now:)
The doors He is opening are amazing to me. Almost miraculous. HIS PLAN IS WONDERFUL AND HIS WISDOM IS MAGNIFICENT.

Hi Janet,
These two lines really jumped out at me:
“Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.”
We all need to be on both ends of this–we need the strength to stand in the storm, and also accept compassion as well as exercise it.
