A Wonderful Day

Most of you know that my 87 year old dad plowed through a heart attack, triple bypass, and aortic valve replacement in January. He came through like a champ. Now he feels better than he has in a long time, and the doctors remain in awe. This summer, he even resurrected his vegetable garden and the rest of us have been happy, satiated benefactors.

He turned 87 last week and we had no idea what to buy him for his birthday. When someone has lived that many years, they have acquired pretty much whatever they want or need. Seems to me that the older we get, the less we require at all. But I digress…

My dad loves airplanes. He marvels at how they work (me, too!) He and his brothers were raised on other people’s farms – sharecroppers – so they learned manual labor at childhood. Their dreams of flying were just that: sky high dreams. John had the idea to fly him to a mountain airport where we could have lunch and they could visit the Airplane Museum.

It was a wonderful day. He said it was the best birthday he’s ever had.

That goes for me, too.

Hi, Janet. I’ve been on your email list for a long time but just recently took advantage of the opportunity to get your blog as well; enjoyed today’s post and I’m sure I’ll enjoy the blog on a regular basis. I’ve enjoyed your music for years; have seen you in person a few times, particularly in my hometown of OKC. You came (this has been YEARS ago) to the former Lakeside A/G a few times and my family & I always enjoyed seeing/hearing you there. Lakeside no longer exists; my wife & I now attend The Bridge (A/G) in nearby Mustang, OK. Our son is a p & w pastor at a church in Rockford, IL and our daughter/family attend another church in the OKC metro area. Hope all’s well w/ you!

BTW, your post re your dad and his heart issues back in January were meaningful to me, in that I had quadruple bypass surgery on Memorial Day of 2018. Had NO clue, til about 3 weeks before the surgery that I had an issue (did NOT have a heart attack, which I’m grateful for!), and the prognosis for surgery was a lot to digest in a short time; but I DO thank God that I had the surgery and recuperated from it just fine! I just turned 71 on Jul 29, so I’m not quite as far-along in age as your dad. I’m glad he is doing as well as he obviously is! I love the pics you posted of him enjoying the mentioned flight. 🙂

    Janet,

Great pictures of your Mother and Dad; we are sure that they are wonderful people as they have two sweet daughters. Thoroughly enjoyed your blog entries and pray that you have a wonderful and safe trip; we know that the Labor Day weekend concert will be great as you are truly inspired by God.

With Love from Bill and Alma
