
- 2026: Will release her 17th and 18th recording projects through Stowtown Records.
- October 2022: Inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame, her home state’s most distinguished music honor.
- May 2019: Inducted into the prestigious Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee.
- May 2017: Earned a Master’s degree with honors in Accounting from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, as well as induction into their Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter, the most prestigious international society for college business schools. “This was a bucket list item,” she states.
- Janet’s travels have taken her to six continents, performing in such venues as Madison Square Garden, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Sydney Opera House, and the Araneta Coliseum.
- 2005: Battled breast cancer and released her second book, Treasures of the Snow, which chronicled her triumphant battle with cancer as well as stories from three decades in Gospel music. She also launched a radio program, Walking The Good Road, airing in the U.S. and Canada. She started the Annual Cancer Walk at Gospel Music’s premier weeklong festival, NQC.
- 1999: Married John Lanier, an airline pilot whom she met the prior year.
- 1992: First book released by Multnomah Publishing. The Good Road became a best seller.
- 1990: Began touring with Bill and Gloria Gaither. She became a featured artist on the Gaither Homecoming Tour and videos.
- 1988: Janet became the first International Spokesperson for the international relief organization, Mission of Mercy, based in Calcutta, India.
- 1986: Janet began touring as a soloist. She signed with Word Records and began composing songs such as Another Soldier’s Coming Home, God Will Make A Way, The Body and Blood, and If I’d Had My Way, finding broad audiences in multiple music genres.
- 1982: Janet began performing as a soloist for Jimmy Swaggart’s U.S. and international crusades. She sang for tens of thousands in arenas and stadiums around the world, and quickly became one of the most recognizable faces and voices in any music genre.
- 1981: Voted the Queen of Gospel Music. She continued to earn numerous awards, including Favorite Female Soloist, Dove Awards and Grammy nominations. She is consistently voted among gospel music’s favorite soloists by the genre’s top publications.
- 1974: At 18 years old, Janet began singing professionally with the LeFevres from Atlanta, Georgia. After two years, the group changed its name to that of the new owner, The Rex Nelon Singers.
- As a child, Janet sang in her grandfather’s church in Reidsville, North Carolina.
