Diggin’ Nashville

Posted in Janet's Posts at 10:19 am by Janet

Hey Everybody,

It’s Thursday – day three in Nashville – and it has been a great trip. We’ve had several of those “uhm” moments in the studio, plus I’ve been able to catch up with some friends here. That’s reason enough to record in Nashville…

Tuesday was an acoustic day in the studio. Some of the best players in town brought fiddle, guitar, accordian, mandolin, etc., and we recorded basic tracks for three of the songs. I couldn’t believe the way the old hymns settled into the string sounds, as though the writers intended that in the first place. Some of these songs are so old that it is possible they did!

Yesterday was the infamous photo shoot. My hero stylist, Cindy Rich, did her usual magic and I looked at the pictures and asked, “Is that me?” She could make anyone look good!!

Last night we tracked with the same musicians that we used on the Christmas project. They are just phenomenal. They are all very strong Christians, too, and that makes the session feel good. They ‘get’ it.

Today we’re tracking two sprirituals – and no one will enjoy this part more than me. I still can’t believe I get to do this.

Wayne Haun is displaying his brilliant self in the arrangements – so talented and so unassuming. He’s the quiet guy in the room who knows what everyone else is trying to figure out.

We still haven’t decided on a title – perhaps it shall remain nameless… nah, we’ll come up with something. You all have submitted some great ideas and we’re grateful for that – we’re just trying to hear something that makes everyone say at once, “That’s it!” Maybe I’m dreaming…

I’m home tomorrow then off to Maugansville, Maryland for the weekend. I hope they’ll have snow!

We love you….

February in Paris

Hey Everybody,

I’m in Paris for a Women’s Conference ( I couldn’t wait to write that opening line!) Okay – I’m in Paris – Texas, that is – a wonderful little town which one travel writer named ‘The Best Small Town In Texas’. It boasts the third largest Eiffel Tower in the world (we took pictures today.)

The Lord intended for me to be at this conference. Gency Fortenberry and her group puts together one of the best weekends ever and I really needed to hear what the speaker said last night. Esther Burroughs reminded us that it is as we study the Word and get STILL before Him that God speaks to us. He does not fight for our attention, but He waits for us to become quiet enough to hear Him. That was a well-timed reminder for me. In the busy-ness of my days (never enough hours in them!) I often plan for God to work around my schedule – molding the moving of His Spirit to fit my plans. Esther’s presentation was a wake-up call – a call to dwell in His presence, to hear His voice, to step back to center at the end of the day.

And just think… I heard it in Paris.

Have a great weekend.

What’s In A Name?

Hey Everybody,

It’s Wednesday morning and we’re gearing up for another day of taping at the Opry House. Yesterday was just awesome. There were so many high points – so many moments that made you go, “Uhmmm”, so many great songs and typical Gaither surprises. I sat amazed at the caliber of talent this industry professes. No genre has more potent lyrics or more passionate delivery. This will definitely be a DVD to own.

Here’s the head-shaker today: I’m walking distance from the Opry Mills Mall and I won’t have time to go. Someone told me they filed for bankruptcy protection after I moved away from Nashville. I guess the good news is that sales tax revenues in North Carolina have spiked.

I’ll be back in Nashville next week to begin tracking the new hymns project. Here’s where you come in. We don’t have a record title. We need one. Records sell better when they have a title. They’re easier to ask for. They’re also easier to alphabetize.

Help. Help. Help us name this project. Help us name it now before it is too late. Simply email your suggestion to me – maplesongs@janetpaschal.com

Have a blessed day.

Love,
Janet

Doeth Good Like A Medicine

Hey Everybody,

It’s early Tuesday morning, and I’m on the way to Nashville for the new Gaither video shoot. We’ll spend two days singing, visiting, eating and, in general, having fun. I still can’t believe I get paid to do what I do.

Bill and Gloria were at my house a couple of months ago (Oops!! Did I just drop names?) and my family was here, too. Mr. Gaither invited my sister to be a part of the shoot tomorrow and Wednesday, so this will be doubly fun for me. If we can just get through the two days without laughing when we shouldn’t… that will definitely be the most difficult part. We’re notorious for giggling uncontrollably (literally) when we shouldn’t – at the worst times, in fact. So if this shoot doesn’t show a lot of our faces, you’ll know we didn’t do so well. You’ll also know that we probably won’t get invited back anytime soon – together, at least. We lose more invitations that way…

Seriously, this will be fun. Next week we go to the studio to begin work on the new hymns project. I’ll give you details then.

We love you!
